The Esplanade

Terrain: Bridges, Rocks, Docks, Manmade structures

Fish types: Bass, Trout, Sunfish, Eel, Perch, Pickerel, Catfish, Carp

Description: Out of all the places I have fished on the Charles river The Esplanade seems to be of the least interest to other anglers. I’m not sure why that is but it is fine with me because it also happens to be where I have caught some of the biggest fish. When I fish The Esplanade I generally start from one end or the other and work my way down. Starting from the BU Bridge you will encounter the dock of the Boston University Sailing Pavilion first. From there walking north along the river there will be a little bit of a walk before you reach anymore structures. There are fish in this stretch but you may need to get creative to reel them in. Eventually you will reach the Mass. Ave. Bridge followed by two manmade inlets. Along the river at this point you will find several docks that tend to be a good place to cast your line at. On the north end of the Esplanade my starting point(or stopping point if I am coming from the south) is the Longfellow bridge. I have found that fish are more difficult to catch beyond that point.
